Six Sinfully Delicious Reasons I won’t Miss the Taboo Naughty but Nice Show

~ Words by Vickie Sam Paget, Sky Blue Content ~

Brace yourself, Vancouver…

The Taboo Naughty But Nice Sex Show is, ahem, ‘coming’ to the Convention Centre this weekend.
If you’re a shrinking violet, you may as well stay at home. Put on your apron and bake a nice Victoria sandwich, or maybe give your stamp collection a little well-deserved TLC. Perhaps listen to some Doris Day tunes.
But if you’re anything like me, you’ll put on a little extra black eyeliner, grab your open mind and be ready and raring to go when the doors open at Taboo at 5pm on Friday. Here are six spectacularly sinful reasons why I won’t miss it…
1. BECAUSE I HAVE A FILTHY MIND
Sick in the head, you say? Not quite. According to webmd.com, sexually active people take less sick days because a little bit of slap-and-tickle is good for your immune system. It also lowers your blood pressure, lowers the risk of a heart attack, provides a great workout, eases stress and improves sleep. So I’m going to Taboo for the good of my health. Doctor’s orders.
2. BECAUSE I CAN DRINK WINE WHILE I SHOP
Oh yes. Perusing lace stockings with a chardonnay in hand? Checking out some erotic literature with a cheeky little shiraz in my hand? Heaven… Simply stop by the bar area and pick up your poison of choice. Shopping in Safeway will never seem the same again.
3. BECAUSE I NEED MORE SELF CONFIDENCE
Vancouver’s own sex therapist, Dr Teesha Morgan, who has appeared on shows like The Marilyn Denis Show and Dragons’ Den, will be providing top-notch sex advice all weekend long. Dr Morgan is always encouraging those she educates to openly discuss sexual topics, and according to the good doctor: “Researchers have been telling us for a while masturbating boosts endorphins and hormones which lowers the stress hormone cortisol. Furthermore, women who frequently masturbate are believed to have higher self confidence than those who shy away from self-pleasure.” Attend one of Dr Morgan’s sex-formative, sex-positive and sex-citing seminars and see your self confidence skyrocket.
4. BECAUSE POLL DANCING ISN’T JUST FOR BIKINI-CLAD 20-YEAR-OLDS
Vancouverite and Tantra Fitness-owner Tammy Morris will be hosting the popular Miss Pole Dance Taboo competition at this year’s show. “Competitors show off not only their sexy side, but also their athletic ability as they compete for the title,” Morris says. “It is wonderful to see all body types and expertise levels feel comfortable to perform for the crowd. This is one of the wonderful reasons this inclusive and body positive show is so popular year after year.”
5. BECAUSE LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO MISS SEEING SOMEONE ‘PAINT’ WITH THEIR PENIS
Brent Ray Fraser is a phantasmagoric force for the seductive power of creativity. A graduate of Emily Carr University, Fraser is deeply committed to the idea of art as conceptual theatre. This provocateur creates art that is sly, humorous and bold – playing with commercial culture, mass media and public sexuality that is reshaping the new millennium. Can’t wait. JUST CAN’T WAIT.
6. BECAUSE EVEN AN OLD DOG CAN LEARN A NEW TRICK
With seminars focusing on everything from ‘5 Ways to Kick-start a ‘Lacklustre Sex Life’ and ‘Embarrassing Sex Questions’ to ‘BDSM 101’ and ‘Kinky Dating’, even the wisest old dog on the Vancouver block can learn a new trick or two at Taboo…
