Why Don’t I Have a Blue Robot Suitcase?

When it comes to COOL, those Italians know a thing or two.
And I’m not talking about supercars, Versace, summers on the Amalfi Coast or black and white photos of the unbearably handsome Marcello Mastroianni with a cigarette dangling nonchalantly from his mouth.
I’m talking about robots. COOL Italian robots.
Because an offspring of the company that made driving a scooter cool – Piaggio – has developed a clever little blue robot on wheels who will follow you around and carry all of your stuff.
And I want one. Badly.
Piaggio Fast Forward’s ‘Gita’ (the Italian word for “outing”) is built to carry up to 44 pounds of cargo and has a volume of up to nearly 2,000 cubic inches. That’s the equivalent of a loaded backpack, two stuffed grocery bags or a case of wine. It also has an impressive eight-hour battery life.
It’s not clear at this stage if little Gita will be allowed on airplanes, but I reckon it’ll happen eventually. In the meantime though, I’d love to take Gita grocery shopping with me—or even better—to the liquor store! This will leave my hands free to play with my cell phone or blow kisses to passerbys as I shout “Ciao bello!” at them.
So please send me one now, Piaggio Fast Forward. The world will be a better place for it.
