KLM Invests in Boeing 787-9
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is introducing the quieter, more fuel efficient Boeing 787-9 to its fleet in October.
The aircraft, which is part of KLM’s overall program of fleet investment, reduces CO2 emissions by at least 20 percent.
“The Boeing 787-9 enables KLM to offer passengers even more comfort and privacy,” said Pieter Elbers, KLM president & CEO. “KLM has chosen to add specific improvements to this special aircraft, which make it unique among other 787s. All these details add up to ensure our passengers can experience a new way to fly.”
Among the most important features of the Boeing 787-9 are the new World Business Class (WBC) seats, which recline to a completely flat position and have direct access to the aisle; the Economy Class seats, which recline 40 percent further; a state-of-the-art inflight entertainment system and Wi-Fi for passengers who want to be online during their flight. Larger windows, a higher cabin pressure and special LED-lighting further enhance the unique flight experience.
SKY HIGH WINE-TASTING

A unique wine-tasting event took place on a flight from Amsterdam to San Francisco recently.
Holland’s renowned culinary couple, Jonnie and Thérèse Boer, hosted the tasting. Viticulturist Thérèse has made her mark by publishing wine books and running the triple-Michelin-starred restaurant De Librije in Zwolle, together with her husband Jonnie.
Thérèse led the blind tasting, during which passengers travelling in World Business Class tasted three white and three red wines. The two wines that topped the list—The Holy Snail Sauvignon Blanc 2014 (France) and Casa Silva Cool Coast Pinot Noir 2013 (Chile)—will be served in the airline’s World Business Class this fall.
The event marked the first time in KLM’s history that a wine-tasting has been held on board an intercontinental flight.
People experience tastes and aromas differently during flight due to factors like cabin pressure and humidity. The ability to taste and smell diminish by an average of 20 percent when flying. For this reason, the meals served on board by KLM are spicier and the wines selected are more full-bodied.
TIME FLIES…

Once again demonstrating that it is at the very cutting edge of technology, KLM has launched an App for the Apple Watch. You can now have all the information you need about your next flight around your wrist. After a one-tap check-in, you can then easily access your boarding card and keep an eye on live flight status and possible gate changes. It can be downloaded in the App Store.
